Connecting to literature: Jonathan edwards
Jonathan Edwards, as you may recall, was a preacher during the Great Awakening, a religious revival of traditional Puritan belief in early 18th-century America. He could be seen as one of the first recognizable figures to use propaganda to influence a large group of Americans.
Recall:
How did he deliver his message?
What was his message, and how might it be seen as one-sided?
What emotions did he attempt to engage in his audience in order to persuade them to accept his viewpoint?
How did he succeed in persuading his audience? What did he promise them, and what consequences were in store for those who didn't accept his message?
